"MacArthur Park" was written by Jimmy Webb, an American songwriter and composer. The song was first performed and recorded by actor and singer Richard Harris. It was released as a single in 1968 and became a major hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

I never knew what to make of MacArthur Park with or without the brass band. However, Jimmy Webb was a top notch "tunesmith". I lent my copy of his "Tunesmith" book to my main guitar teacher and never got it back. Tunesmith was taken so I had to become a songwright.

this was before my time, but I think I got it too. The last few days I have an urge to listen to orchestra Baobab again - after several years I played their contageous songs again. Not really a brass band, but close.

The Goons were before my time, but comedian Peter Sellars was one of the Goons, and he became quite popular with his Pink Panther series of comedies in the mid 1960s. I was in high school at that time. I read a couple of amusing books by Goon spike Milligan in the early 1970s I found that it was hard to make out the words on the video.

"... the legendary radio show 'The Goon Show', starring Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe, Spike Milligan, Michael Bentine, The Ray Ellington Quartet and Max Geldray .... "

My naughty paternal grandfather on at least one occasion sat up in front of a brass band and sucked a lemon. This was said to disturb their pucker. We loved listening to the Goons.
